REFLECTIONS

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY
October 07, 2020

Today, the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary brought back memories of my childhood days where we were gathered every evening as a family to pray the Holy Rosary. Many times, I would kneel at the back with the pillow and I was fast asleep before the end of the prayer where we used to “MANO” our parent’s hands. My sisters scolded me but my Mother patiently told me that the devil lulled me to sleep to keep me away from prayer, hence I have to do better next time.

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Chapel is just 10 steps from our home. My Mother, Leonidas, was so devoted to her that she initiated and led activities during Fiesta celebrations and the Flores de Mayo so dear to the children during May well-participated by the children and youth. I could still imagine the decorated “AVE MARIA” letters she used to make for the kids to carry during the procession may it be during Fiesta or Sta. Cruzan.

With these scenarios, she effectively handed down to us children the devotion to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. She is our refuge when difficulties beseech our family. This prayer also accompanied me in my journey in the formation to become a Religious Sister since my parents prayed the Holy Rosary daily at 4:00 am for my holy perseverance.

In the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima, the children, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia were taught by her to pray the Holy Rosary for the conversion of sinners and to pray for the Church. It is a powerful prayer to ward away the evil spirits. The devil trembles at the sight of the Blessed Virgin, a humble servant who abides by the Will of GOD, as she uttered to St. Gabriel,” BEHOLD THE HANDMAID OF THE LORD, BE IT DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO THY WORD.”

I was so deeply touched with the testimony of a military commander. He was then a young officer going home from a faraway mission riding in a bus when armed men halted the bus and went aboard interrogating the passengers if there were military on board. The soldier instinctively put his hand inside his pocket clasping the HOLY ROSARY while praying mentally to Our Lady to spare him and the rest of the passengers. He was so afraid not for his life alone but also for the innocent people on board. Miraculously, after a thorough searched, the armed men alighted from the bus and they were allowed to proceed. He was so grateful to Our Lady that he erected a statue of her at the entrance of headquarter, and continue to give rosaries to many people since then.

My greatest consolation from Our Lady of the Holy Rosary was five years ago as of today, my dear Mother was called to ETERNITY by our Heavenly Father accompanied by Mary. She who promised that whoever is devoted to her is assured of heaven and will be assisted in death.

With this assurance, I could say” FATHER HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME YOUR KINGDOM COME” … AMEN.
